Tumor Terminators- Carlos' Legacy
On Saturday, September 22, 2018, Tumor Terminators - Carlos' Legacy, will be running/walking a 5K at the 19th annual Race for Research in Atlantic Station. This fundraising event raises money to support badly needed brain tumor research. If you've not participated before, there's no time like the present!
You can participate by running the race along with us, by donating toward our team's fundraising efforts, or by helping us spread the word about this fundraising event. If you're not a runner, don't worry, many of the registrants are not runners. Many of the registrants are brain tumor patients who are just happy to be alive and happy to be able to participate in this event.
Our team is inspired to run in loving memory of my father, Carlos, who succombed to his battle with brain cancer last Christmas Eve. Overnight, we watched him go from a strong, healthy, active, happy, smart, caring, loving, funny man...to one who struggled daily with basic self-help activities, speech and memory challenges, and the severe emotional burden of his diagnosis and prognosis. This was in addition to the awful side effects he had from dealing with radiation, chemotherapy, and all of the other medications he was on. Although we had him alive with us for 1 1/2 years after his diagnosis, we almost immediately "lost" my father (as we knew him) following his diagnosis and subsequent brain tumor surgery. He was truly never the same. There was nothing that could have prepared our family for that, and unfortunately, many other families continue to share these similar sad experiences today.
Should you choose to donate to this cause or run (or walk) with our team, your participation will have a positive impact on the life of a brain tumor patient because it will help to fund much needed brain tumor research. My hopes are that as more and more is known about this awful, debilitating disease, that someday nobody will have to hear the dreaded words, "You (or your loved one) have brain cancer" or "You (or your loved one) have a brain tumor."
Thank you for your consideration! There is no donation too small. :)
